Progressive Caucus Leadership Candidates

The current leaders of the DPW Progressive Caucus will probably not seek reelection in June. If you would like to run for chair, vice chair, or secretary/treasurer, please email the following information to cvmaren-at-mwt.net by May 20. Links to candidates' statements will be given here.

For descriptions of officers' duties, please read our constitution.

Please email:
  • Your name
  • Your county party
  • Your CD
  • Which office will you run for
  • One paragraph of five to seven sentences - what is your top priority/number one reason for running for this position?
  • One paragraph - what other groups are you affiliated with? How will you connect the PC with these other groups?
  • One paragraph - any other information you'd like PC members to know about you
  • If you have a public website or page, please note the address in your email.
For Secretary/Treasurer: Dr. Mark Neumann, MD
  • La Crosse Democratic Party
  • 3rd Congressional District
  • What is your top priority/number one reason for running for this position? --- I believe that good governance of the people, by the people and for the people is under serious historical threat caused by ever increasing wealth disparity of our citizenship. Power and wealth augments power and wealth. The powerless become ever more powerless. Our defense against this trend is to organize as persons caring for persons.  As secretary of the PC, I would work to help keep members of the caucus informed, connected and in touch.
  • What other groups are you affiliated with? How will you connect the PC with these other groups? --- I am a member of Physicians for National Health Program. This is a politically active group of physicians and other healthcare professionals that work to achieve universal, comprehensive, single payer healthcare insurance for all residents of the U.S.  Healthcare for All is a prominent progressive goal in our political conversation. I will bring my knowledge and enthusiasm to work for M4A to the PC and will help to inform the PC in any way that is helpful.
  • Any other information you'd like PC members to know about you --- I am recently retired from medical practice as a pediatric critical care provider and I now have more time for political activity and engagement.

I will be running for Progressive Caucus Chair.

Top reason for running, is to fix that which is broken, with in the party, by mobilizing the caucus to build upon the infrastructure that is needed to sustain progressive action, to put out the welcome-mat and encourage folks young and old, across all demographics, to join our Party and to ensure that the Progressive Caucus, acts as an inter reflective organization, that will act as a mouth piece for the people of Wisconsin and constantly re-examine the democratic party, to continue to ensure that it acts as the mouth piece for the people.

I am with the "Wisconsin Grassroots Network", networking with folks across the state and creating events. The "Building Unity" project, which unites organizations of different social and political issues and values. A "DeForest, Windsor Area Grassroots", member; which is my local grassroots group. I was the founder of "Organizing Wisconsin For Bernie Sanders 2016" and a Bernie Sanders delegate. I ran as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Progressive Caucus in 2018 and took over as chair, for Matthew LaRonge, after he stepped down, in November of 2018. I have an advisory position on Ben Wikler's election team.

As chair, I have created our committee/coordinator strategy, invited and helped incorporate the "Rural Caucus" into our strategy, I have built our resolutions/policy committee, with strong representation from 7 of our 8 CD's. I have sorted out our google docs and created a Progressive library filling system and I have increased our meetings to two meeting per month, to work on our strategy. Instead of just meeting 6 times a year, our caucus is meeting 24 times a year (at least). I have attended the admin meetings; as an advisory representative, and have kept the caucus informed of all news from our state. I also placed Cathy Van Maren as our interim secretary/treasurer.

If elected, I will continue to build and fortify our Progressive Caucus.
